Green Lemonade Recipe

Recommended by Cameron Woodward, this is a recipe by Natalia Rose, author of The Raw Food Detox Diet www.therawfooddetoxdiet.com. It requires a juicer. The author offers a number of different stages of incorporating raw foods into one's diet.

1 head romaine lettuce or celery
5 or 6 stalks kale
1 to 2 apples (as needed for sweetness – organic Fuji are recommended)
1 whole organic lemon
1 to 2 inches fresh ginger (optional)
 
You can add cucumber, spinach and perhaps a couple of carrots if desired. Ms. Rose also mentions chard and collard greens as possibilities to add to the recipe.
 
Another author with a very effective approach to bringing more greens into the diet is Victoria Boutenko (Green for Life). She advocates blended green smoothies sweetened with fruit. Fuhrman talks about cancer being a fruit- and vegetable-deficiency disease since fruits and vegetables are full of phytochemicals that protect against diseases. If Americans ate more salads, there would be much less cancer, obesity, and other illnesses.
 
Cameron writes: "I think most of us are quite undernourished. Greens are said to be the most nutrient-rich foods in the world, but they make up a tiny percentage of the typical American diet. Putting them in juice or a blended drink is a great way of incorporating more of them into our diets. For a few weeks, I’ve been doing the green lemonade, wheatgrass and trying to make a larger percentage of my foods raw, and I’m amazed at how much more nourished I feel. It’s like all the cells of my body are crying out, 'Thank you!'...it feels like my energy levels have been soaring, and becoming much more consistent throughout the day."
